Analyzing Canada Goose Hldgs's Unusual Options Activity
- Shares of Canada Goose Hldgs (NYSE: GOOS) saw some unusual options activity on Friday. Following the unusual option alert, the stock price moved up to $23.9. * Sentiment: BEARISH * Option Type: SWEEP * Trade Type: PUT * Expiration Date: 2020-09-18 * Strike Price: $22.50 * Volume: 2284 * Open Interest: 2113 Indications of Unusual Options Activity Extraordinarily large volume is one indication of unusual options activity. Volume refers to the total shares contracts traded in a day when discussing options activity. Contracts that have been traded, but not closed by a counter-party, are called open interest. A purchased contract cannot be considered closed until there exists both a buyer and seller for the option.Another gauge of unusual options activity is a contract with an expiration date in the distant future. Additional time until a contract expires generally increases the potential for it to grow its time value and reach its strike price. It is important to consider time value because it represents the difference between the strike price and the value of the underlying asset.Contracts that are "out of the money" are also indicative of unusual options activity. "Out of the money" contracts occur when the underlying price is under the strike price on a call option, or above the strike price on a put option. These trades are made with the expectation that the value of the underlying asset is going to change dramatically in the future, and buyers and sellers will benefit from a greater profit margin.Bullish and Bearish Sentiments Options are "bullish" when a call is purchased at/near ask price or a put is sold at/near bid price. Options are "bearish" when a call is sold at/near bid price or a put is bought at/near ask price.Although the activity is suggestive of these strategies, these observations are made without knowing the investor's true intentions when purchasing these options contracts. An observer cannot be sure if the bettor is playing the contract outright or if they're hedging a large underlying position in a common stock. For the latter case, the exposure a large investor has on their short position in common stock may be more meaningful than bullish options activity.Trading Options With These Strategies Unusual options activity is an advantageous strategy that may greatly reward an investor if they are highly skilled, but for the less experienced trader, it should remain as another tool to make an educated investment decision while taking other observations into account. For more information to understand options alerts, visit https://pro.benzinga.help/en/articles/1769505-how-do-i-understand-options-alertsSee more from Benzinga * Canada Goose: Q1 Earnings Insights * Earnings Scheduled For August 11, 2020 * Benzinga's Top Upgrades, Downgrades For July 22, 2020(C) 2020 Benzinga.com. Canada Goose Slips 4% On Depressed 2Q Sales Outlook
- Shares of Canada Goose Holdings are falling over 4% as the outwear maker expects a significant decline in 2Q revenues, due to the negative impact of the COVID-19.Canada Goose (GOOS) reported a smaller-than-expected 1Q loss of C$0.35 per share versus analysts’ expectations of a loss of C$0.42 per share. Meanwhile, its revenues of C$26.1 million came ahead of Street estimates of C$20.5 million. The company's 2Q loss widened from a year-ago loss of C$0.21 per share, while revenues declined over 63% year-over-year, due to temporary store closures and reduced store hours amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The company’s CEO Dani Reiss said: “New openings this year will be concentrated in mainland China, where the recovery of traffic remains ahead of other markets. With international tourism now heavily constrained, serving the world’s largest luxury consumer base at home is increasingly crucial.”Ahead of the 1Q results, Susquehanna analyst Sam Poser reiterated a Buy rating on the stock and had set a price target of $31.40 (30.9% upside potential). Poser noted that “Canada Goose remains one of the best managed, most authentic brands in the market, and we remain confident that the company will emerge from the current pandemic much stronger than it was when the crisis started.” He added that “The long-term outlook for Canada Goose continues to improve throughout the current crisis.”Currently, the Street has a cautiously optimistic outlook on the stock. The Moderate Buy analyst consensus is based on 7 Buys, 2 Holds, and 1 Sell. The average price target of $28.72 implies an upside potential of about 20%. Canada Goose Drops on Slow Traffic in Reopened Stores
- (Bloomberg) -- Canada Goose Holdings Inc. dropped as much as 9% after the company said activity was slow in its reopened stores, raising concerns about demand ahead of the key winter season. The company said it will focus new store openings this year on mainland China, “where the recovery of traffic remains ahead of other markets.”Key InsightsThe height of the crisis hit the company during its quietest season, as parka orders tend to pick up closer to winter months. While 21 of 22 of its retail stores have reopened, traffic is “considerably lower” than a year earlier, according to the company, which predicted a “significant” revenue decline in the current quarter.Revenue in the first quarter, which ended June 28, was C$26.1 million ($19.7 million), down 63% from a year earlier. The company isn’t providing an outlook for 2021.The company has been decreasing its reliance on wholesalers and focus on its own, more lucrative stores and e-commerce. Shipments to wholesalers are “materially lower” and will generate lower revenue this year, the company said. The wholesale channel represented 74.2% of sales in the second quarter last year.Canada Goose has resumed production, in parallel to manufacturing Covid-19 protective equipment. Output will be about one-third of last year’s levels as the company plans a significant inventory drop by the end of the fiscal year in March.Market ReactionCanada Goose’s U.S.-listed shares were down nearly 5% as of 9:53 a.m. New York time. They had dropped 32% this year through Monday’s close. The stock drop makes the company a candidate to be taken private again, BTIG analyst Camilo Lyon wrote Monday.Get MoreFor the company’s statement, click here.(Updates with share price movement in first and last paragraphs)For more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.comSubscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news source.©2020 Bloomberg L.P.

Canada Goose to cut production, spending on retail stores as virus hits sales
- The company said it would invest more in its online business to prepare for a busy fall/winter season as reopened retail stores have seen a slow recovery in sales. Canada Goose, which has restarted manufacturing down-filled jackets, said its overall production this year would be a third of the 2020 output, as it aims to reduce inventory levels by the end of the year. Canada Goose, known for its expensive red parkas worn by everyone from Arctic scientists to Hollywood celebrities, expects its second quarter to be a "low point" for its online business as its products would mostly be off-season.

Canada Goose’s Recovery Plan: More Direct Sales, Less Wholesale
- (Bloomberg) -- Before the coronavirus crisis, Canada Goose Holdings Inc. had been moving to selling more goods to consumers through its own stores and e-commerce sites. That’s bound to accelerate as lockdown rules ease. The Toronto-based company halted shipments to distributors and other retailers that sell its luxury parkas at the end of March, when countries shut down their economies to stem the Covid-19 outbreak. With many cities reopening, the company says it will take “an even more disciplined approach” to wholesale partners and how much inventory it sends them.“It remains strategically important but we are increasing our emphasis on DTC,” or direct to consumer sales, Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Sinclair told analysts during an earnings call Wednesday. “This allows us to control the consumer experience directly, while earning double the revenue and triple the profit.”While the company was hit by the pandemic early on because of China operations, it reported a smaller-than-expected revenue drop in the quarter ended March 29, helping shares climb as much as 16% Thursday in Toronto. They’re still down 29% this year. Most of the impact from store closures will be felt in the current quarter, historically its least important because the weather is warm and it’s too early to ship to wholesalers. Like many companies that are dealing with a sudden rise in economic uncertainty, Canada Goose declined to give a forecast for this year. The manufacturer switched to making personal protective equipment for Canadian workers at its eight factories across the country.Large InventoryCanada Goose says it built up a large enough inventory of its regular products before the pandemic to meet future demand and be nimble on when to resume production. Two-thirds to three-quarters of revenue in each collection comes from recurring styles, according to Sinclair, which makes hanging on to older goods less risky.Holding inventory makes sense for luxury brands in the current climate of uncertainty, with peak season starting in October for Canada Goose, said Maxime Boucher, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.“That avoids undue and undesirable discounting and possible inventory buybacks and write-offs,” he said.Canada Goose routinely says it’s a full-price brand after investors’ questions about discounts weighed on the stock last year, when it dropped 21%.Wholesale accounted for 44% of revenue at the end of March, down from 57% two years earlier, as the company added stores from Milan to Shanghai. It said shipment to wholesalers this year will be “healthy” but lower, as some still have pre-pandemic inventory. Before the crisis hit, the company had already been culling its group of sellers. It trimmed its wholesale points of distribution to 2,121 in the fall/winter 2019 season from 2,227 a year earlier, regulatory filings show. For more articles like this, please visit us at bloomberg.comSubscribe now to stay ahead with the most trusted business news source.©2020 Bloomberg L.P.

PreMarket Prep Stock Of The Day: Canada Goose
- Benzinga's PreMarket Prep airs every morning from 8-9 a.m. ET. During that fast-paced, highly informative hour, traders and investors tune in to get the major news of the day, the catalysts behind those moves and the corresponding price action for the upcoming session. On any given day, the show will cover at least 20 stocks determined by co-hosts Joel Elconin and Dennis Dick along with producer Spencer Israel. For those who don't have the time to tune in live or listen to the podcast, Benzinga will highlight one stock that merits further discussion. This analysis is not a buy or sell recommendation. As technology and growth stocks take a breather in the rally off the March low, value and beaten-down stocks have taken the baton. The retail sector, which has been one of the sectors punished the most and slowest to rebound, has come back to life. One issue on the move in today's session is Canada Goose Holdings Inc (NYSE: GOOS), making it the PreMarket Prep Stock Of The Day.Out Of Favor Since November 2018From its IPO opening day close of $16.08 on March 16, 2017, the issue bottomed on March 28 at $15.20 and embarked on an incredible rally. With only a few interruptions on the downside, the issue did not peak until November of 2018 at $72.27. It could not sustain that elevated level and backed off to end 2018 at $43.72.Rebound In 2019 FailsCanada Goose attempted to rebound in early 2019, reaching $59.94 before the downtrend resumed. It ended the year just off the yearly low ($33.38) at $36.04.View more earnings on GOOSIt did not participate in the rally with the broad market in early 2020 and shed another 24% by the end of February, falling to $27.57. The decline was far from over as the issue swooned to a new all-time low in March. The issue bottomed out a few days ahead of the S&P; 500 index on March 18, a few dollars below its former all-time low at $12.94, and began to rebound.Muted Rebound Until Q4 ReportBefore today's open, the company announced an EPS loss of 12 cents on sales of CA$140.9 million. Although the report was not that impressive, it does not seem to matter as investors are hungry for beaten-down stocks, especially retail stocks that have yet to rebound. After a higher open, it had only a nine-cent retreat to $22.91 before resuming its move higher. The continuation rally took the issue to $25.01 but fell back into the mid-$24 handle at the time of writing. That high matches its April 30 high of $24.99, but is shy of the high for the rebound from April 29 at $25.64.Moving ForwardDespite having its best day since March 24 ($15.96 to $18.73), investors may want to be cautious about how high the rally will take the issue, especially since the company stated: "the negative financial impact of Covid-19 will be more pronounced in the first quarter ending June 28.2020, with a negligible level of revenue expected."For now, price does not lie and the issue has gained some upward momentum. In order to add to that momentum, it would need to breach the rebound high and better yet, post a close above the current high for the rebound at $24.99.The entire discussion on the issue from today's show can be found here:See more from Benzinga * PreMarket Prep Stock Of The Day: Zoom Video * PreMarket Prep Stock Of The Day: Tesla * PreMarket Prep Stock Of The Day: Big Lots(C) 2020 Benzinga.com. - Canada Goose (NYSE: GOOS) stock was soaring 11% higher heading into midday trading Wednesday after the outerwear company reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings that beat analyst expectations. Corporate earnings coming in ahead of Wall Street forecasts has been rare during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly for retailers like Canada Goose. While the near blackout during its fiscal first quarter would typically mean a disaster in the making, this period is Canada Goose's weakest quarter of the year anyway, representing around 7% of full-year sales.

Canada Goose Stock Is Soaring Despite a Warning on Sales
- (GOOS) stock leapt after the maker of expensive winter coats reported higher sales than expected for the March quarter, but said the Covid-19 pandemic would have a larger effect on the current quarter. The company reported an adjusted net loss of 13 million Canadian dollars (US$9.6 million), in line with expectations, according to FactSet. Canada Goose makes luxury winter parkas that typically cost around $1,000.

Canada Goose lowers reliance on department stores in recovery push
- Department stores have been crushed by forced closures as countries looked to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Canada Goose, whose red parkas are worn by everyone from Arctic scientists to Hollywood celebrities, said shipments to department stores have been largely shutoff since March and it expects lower orders in the coming months compared to last year, given the piling up of inventory during closures. In the fourth quarter ended March 29, Canada Goose's revenue fell nearly 10% to C$140.9 million ($104.15 million), but beat analysts' estimates of C$128.1 million, according to IBES data from Refinitiv.

Canada Goose shares rise after earnings beat expectations
- Shares of Canada Goose Holdings Inc. rose 3.8% in Wednesday premarket trading after the outerwear company reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings that beat expectations. Net income for the period ending March 29 totaled C$7.9 million, or 2 cents per share, after C$6.0 million, or 8 cents per share, last year. Sales totaled C$140.9 million, down from C$156.2 million last year. The FactSet consensus was for a loss per share of 13 cents and sales of C$126.5 million. The first quarter is typically the smallest of the year, the company said. In response to the coronavirus, Canada Goose has reduced first-quarter cash expenses by C$90 million through a number of measures including executive salary reductions of 20%, with Chief Executive Dani Reiss foregoing his salary, and reduced investment in retail and manufacturing. As of June 1, Canada Goose had cash-on-hand of C$119.7 million and C$239.4 million remaining in its revolving credit facility. In the first seven weeks of the fiscal first quarter, 15 of the company's 20 stores were closed. Stores are open in Hong Kong, Montreal and Paris. Canada Goose is not providing guidance at this time due to the pandemic. The stock has slumped 40.4% for the year to date while the S&P; 500 index is down 4.6% for the period.
