I believe an investment in Comstock could offer high returns due to the stock's current low earnings multiple, high revenue growth with high ROIC, and the D.C. area's demographics.

Prosecutor testifies on alleged politicization inside Barr's Justice Department
- WASHINGTON -- The House Judiciary Committee heard testimony Wednesday from a federal prosecutor and another witness who have accused Attorney General William Barr and his top deputies of acting "based on political considerations" and a desire to appease President Donald Trump.
Aaron Zelinsky, an assistant U.S. attorney in Maryland formerly detailed to special prosecutor Robert Mueller's Russia investigation, told the panel that prosecutors involved in the criminal trial of Trump's friend Roger Stone experienced "heavy pressure from the highest levels of the Department of Justice" to give Stone "a break" by requesting a lighter sentence.
Zelinsky testified about how he was pressured to offer a more lenient sentencing recommendation for Trump associate Roger Stone, and the reason was political.
"I was told that the acting U.S. attorney was giving Stone a break because he was afraid of the president of the United States," Zelinsky testified.
Zelinsky testified that he and his fellow career prosecutors resisted efforts to reduce their sentencing recommendation and were told "we could be fired if we didn't go along." He said he was not given a good legal reason for offering a lighter recommendation.
"What I heard repeatedly was that this leniency was happening because of Stone's relationship to the president, that the acting U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia was receiving heavy pressure from the highest levels of the Department of Justice and that his instructions to us were based on political considerations," Zelinsky said.
Zelinsky conceded he did not have firsthand knowledge of discussions among political leadership. He said he and his colleagues were initially allowed to file the recommendation they wanted, only to have the Justice Department later reverse course after Trump tweeted his anger over the...

How Trump's beliefs about media and loyalty coalesced in a battle for Voice of America
- WASHINGTON - On Monday, President Donald Trump's long-deferred pick to head the U.S. Agency for Global Media, finally started work after a bruising, two-year Senate confirmation battle.
By the end of Wednesday, Michael Pack had achieved a clean sweep of the top offices of every division he oversees - including venerable news outlets like Voice of America and Radio Free Europe.
The swift purge of former appointees has increased the worry among Democrats and press freedom advocates that the Trump administration is attempting to gain control over an independent but federally funded media organization with among the largest audiences in the world. On its own, the Voice of America delivers television and radio programs to 236.6 million people - and in some countries dominated by state media, it is the only free and unshackled news source.
"USAGM's role as an unbiased news organization is in jeopardy," said Rep. Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said Wednesday in a statement. Pack, he added, "needs to understand that USAGM is not the Ministry of Information."
Yet the machinations of recent weeks also epitomize Trump's knack for turning a relatively obscure issue or backwater agency into fodder for a culture war - with little more than a tweet.
The president first nominated Pack, who is in his mid-60s, for the USAGM job in 2018. Pack is revered in Republican circles as something of a unicorn - a documentary filmmaker with solid conservative credentials (he served as president of the Claremont Institute, a prominent think tank) who could also make PBS-quality work. His projects have included "God and the Inner City," about three faith-based organizations; a film on the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress; and an appreciative documentary about the life of Clarence Thomas, featuring...

After departure of Voice of America editors, new Trump-appointed overseer fires heads of four sister organizations
- The directors of four federally funded agencies that produce news and information for international audiences have been fired by a new chief executive officer appointed by President Donald Trump, in a purge that has raised concerns among Democrats about editorial meddling.
Combined with the resignation of the director and deputy director of Voice of America on Monday, the firings ordered by Michael Pack, the new head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, represents a clean sweep of top officials who manage government-funded but otherwise independent news broadcasting operations.
The speed and sweep of the firings - Pack began work only Monday after a bruising Senate confirmation battle - raised fears that Trump was trying to exert greater control over the output of such venerable organizations as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Radio Free Asia, Middle East Broadcasting and the Open Technology Fund, the agencies whose heads Pack removed via a brief letter late Wednesday.
Pack, a conservative filmmaker who has previously run the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, had the support of Steve Bannon, Trump's former campaign chief executive and White House advisor, during his long confirmation battle. Trump and the White House jumpstarted the stalled nomination in April by publicly attacking VOA, claiming that its reporting was "propaganda" in support of China and Iran.
Representatives of USAGM, formerly known as the Broadcasting Board of Governors, did not respond to a request for comment about the firings.
According to USAGM's charter, government officials, including Pack and his agency, are prohibited from exercising any editorial control over the agencies they supervise.
The agency's website says this so-called "firewall" was put in place to ensure that "accurate, balanced, and comprehensive news and information" is...

Trump offers 'domination' of DC protests as model for states
- WASHINGTON (AP) - Claiming he is backed by a "silent majority," President Donald Trump turned the nation's capital into a model for the overwhelming force he believes critical to stop sometimes-violent protests that have spread across the country in a time of racial unrest. His tactics were decried Tuesday by some fellow Republicans as well as his presumptive Democratic opponent.
The violent dispersal of peaceful protests near the White House the night before was a potent symbol of Trump's policing tactics and a physical manifestation of the rhetorical culture war he has stoked since before he was elected. Moments after historic Lafayette Park was cleared, Trump walked across to pose with a Bible in front of a church damaged by fire during protests the previous evening.
"D.C. had no problems last night. Many arrests. Great job done by all. Overwhelming force. Domination," Trump tweeted Tuesday, after a night in which heavily armed military forces and federal officers swarmed the city. Trump added: "(thank you President Trump!)."
The president wanted to make the aggressive action in the nation's capital - where he wields disproportionate powers - an example for the rest of the country, a senior White House official said Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss internal thinking. Trump hoped his personal walk to the church, after federal officials dispersed protesters, would send a message about how dominant force could restore law and order.
The president has threatened that if states do not take tough enough action, he will deploy active duty military across the country to quell unrest in the wake of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
"SILENT MAJORITY!" Trump tweeted Tuesday, embracing a phrase popularized by President Richard...

Virginia county pulls officers from DC after Trump photo-op
- ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) - A county in northern Virginia pulled its officers out of the District of Columbia Monday night after they played a supporting role in clearing protesters from a park outside the White House so the president could walk to a church for a photo opportunity.
The Arlington County Board issued a statement Monday night saying its officers were used "for a purpose not worthy of our mutual aid obligations."
Arlington officers joined a team of federal law enforcers using chemical agents and flash bangs to forcibly remove a large group of peaceful protesters from Lafayette Park.
That cleared a path for President Donald Trump, who had just issued a statement from the Rose Garden vowing to crack down on protesters, to walk from the White House over to St. John's Church, which had been damaged in earlier protests. Trump then posed with a Bible for a few minutes.
County Board Chair Libby Garvey said on Twitter she's "appalled" that the mutual aid agreement was abused "for a photo op."
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, for her part, said Tuesday that the District of Columbia never put out a call for mutual aid.
"I might suggest their officers shouldn't have been there in the first place," Bowser added.
In a phone interview, Garvey said the aid request came from U.S. Park Police, and that the agencies have provided aid to each other routinely over the years. She said Arlington Police were helping in the District Saturday and Sunday without incident.
What was unacceptable Monday, she said, was using officers to facilitate "a press op."
In Richmond, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam said he rejected a federal government request to send the Virginia National Guard to the District in part because the troops were not requested by Bowser and because he didn't...

Inside the push to tear-gas protesters ahead of a presidential photo op
- WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump began considering a visit to St. John's Episcopal Church on Monday morning, after spending the night devouring cable news coverage of protests across the country, including in front of the White House.
The historic church had been damaged by fire, and Trump was eager to show that the nation's capital - and especially his own downtown swath of it - was under control.
There was just one problem: the throngs of protesters, who on Monday had again assembled peacefully in Lafayette Square across from the White House to protest the death of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died in police custody in Minneapolis last week.
And so - shortly before the president addressed the nation from the Rose Garden at 6:43 p.m. Monday and roughly a half-hour before the District of Columbia's 7 p.m. curfew went into effect - authorities fired flash-bang shells, gas and rubber bullets into the crowd, clearing a path for Trump to visit the church immediately after his remarks.
The split screen as Trump began speaking was dark and foreboding - an angry leader proclaiming himself "an ally of all peaceful protesters" alongside smoke-filled mayhem and pandemonium as protesters raced for safety.
The evening's events were the product of a president who favors brute strength and fears looking weak yet finds himself reeling from a duo of crises - a deadly pandemic that has left more than 100,000 Americans dead and racial unrest that has led to protests and riots across the nation.
He has also been consumed by his faltering poll numbers against former vice president Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.
When Trump had returned safely to the White House less than an hour later, the verdict seemed clear: The president had staged an...
