Cincinnati-Tulsa postponed due to Bearcats' COVID-19 issues
- No. 8 Cincinnati's game at Tulsa on Saturday has been postponed because of positive COVID-19 tests among Bearcats players.
The American Athletic Conference announced Thursday the game is being rescheduled for Dec. 5.
Later, FIU at Charlotte was postponed because of an increase in positive tests in the FIU program. Charlotte athletic director Mike Hill said in a statement the schools will work with Conference USA to reschedule the game in December.
The number of Cincinnati players who have tested positive or have been quarantined through contact tracing was not revealed by the school, which has not been making those numbers public throughout its testing of athletes.
Cincinnati is next scheduled to play Oct. 24 at No. 17 SMU.
FIU is scheduled to play Oct. 23 against Jacksonville, a game originally scheduled for Sept. 3 but pushed back when FIU delayed the start of its fall sports competition to Sept. 16.
Overall, six major college games slated to be played this week have been rescheduled because of the virus, including five since Sunday. The Southeastern Conference has called off two games, including LSU at No. 10 Florida, the first postponements in the league since it began Sept. 26.
The SEC was also rocked this week by the news that Alabama coach Nick Saban tested positive for the virus ahead of the second-ranked Crimson Tide's showdown at home with No. 3 Georgia. Saban said Wednesday he did not have symptoms. He is unlikely to coach Saturday against Georgia.
The number of games involving FBS teams to be postponed and canceled since Aug. 26 is now 31.
Tulsa has had three games postponed, including its opener against Oklahoma State, which it was able to make up. The Golden Hurricane have played only twice this season. They are scheduled to play at USF on Oct. 23.

Joe Morgan, driving force of Big Red Machine, dies at 77
- CINCINNATI (AP) - At 5-foot-7, he was the smallest cog in the Big Red Machine. And to his star-powered teammates, Joe Morgan was a driving force, too.
Morgan, the Hall of Fame second baseman who became the sparkplug of dominant Cincinnati teams in the mid-1970s and the prototype for baseball's artificial turf era, has died. He was 77.
He died at his home Sunday in Danville, California, family spokesman James Davis said in statement Monday. Morgan was suffering from a nerve condition, a form of polyneuropathy.
"Joe Morgan was quite simply the best baseball player I played against or saw," Reds Hall of Fame catcher Johnny Bench texted to The Associated Press.
Morgan's death marked the latest among major league greats this year: Whitey Ford, Bob Gibson, Lou Brock, Tom Seaver and Al Kaline.
"All champions. This hurts the most," Bench said.
Morgan was a two-time NL Most Valuable Player, a 10-time All-Star and won five Gold Gloves. A dynamo known for flapping his left elbow at the plate, Little Joe could hit a home run, steal a base and disrupt any game with his daring.
Most of all, he completed Cincinnati's two-time World Series championship team, boosting a club featuring the likes of Pete Rose, Tony Perez and Bench to back-to-back titles.
"Joe would always amaze me," Rose told the AP. "He was by far the most intelligent player I've ever been around. He rubbed off on all of us. A big part of the Big Red Machine."
Morgan's tiebreaking single with two outs in the ninth inning of Game 7 in 1975 gave the Reds the crown in a classic matchup with Boston, and he spurred a four-game sweep of the Yankees the next season.
Morgan was the league's MVP both years. And his Hall of Fame teammates and manager readily acknowledged he was the one that got it...

'Winning is fun': Relieved Bengals now look for momentum
- CINCINNATI (AP) - Never publicly effusive with his thoughts, Cincinnati quarterback Joe Burrow tweeted Sunday night for the first time in a awhile after the Bengals upended the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"Winning is fun," the 23-year-old rookie from LSU tweeted to his nearly 435,000 followers.
Fun, indeed, especially if you play for the Bengals, who didn't win a game until Week 13 of last year's 2-14 debacle. The first win of the year takes some of the pressure off for sure, but Burrow was probably smart to keep it brief and not make any predictions for the rest of the season.
The Bengals' offense, despite some confounding offensive line issues, shredded a bad Jacksonville defense on the way to a 33-25 win. Running back Joe Mixon rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns and scored another on a pass from Burrow. Burrow passed for exactly 300 yards, becoming the first NFL rookie to pass for 300 or more in three consecutive games.
With Burrow on fire, the Bengals are trending up, as they say, but Sunday's game against quarterback Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens (3-1) likely will be a better indicator of their progress.
But getting that first win, which also happened to be Burrow's first NFL victory, makes everything better.
"You're not seeing big celebrations in the locker room," coach Zac Taylor said Monday. "That's not what we're about right now.
"It wasn't like last year, getting those wins last year. This year is different. Our expectations are different."
WHAT'S WORKING
The running game got uncorked, with Mixon breaking away for some chunk plays on the way to one of the best days of his career. The offensive line certainly was better. Burrow had another tick or two to find receivers downfield. The defense did a decent job of caging Jags scrambling...

Mixon's 3 TDs pace Bengals in 33-25 win over Jaguars
- CINCINNATI (AP) - In 24 hours, Joe Mixon went from a worrying hospital visit with a mysterious chest injury to busting out for one of the best games of his career.
The fourth-year running back missed practice late in the week and said he went to a hospital Saturday with pain in his chest and difficulty breathing. He didn't say exactly what doctors told him, but he thought he might have hurt himself by sleeping on it wrong.
Mixon sure looked fine Sunday, though, rushing for 151 yards on 25 carries with two touchdowns and adding a third score on a 9-yard swing pass from rookie quarterback Joe Burrow in the Bengals' 33-25 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
"The doctors loved up on me, and I was able to go out there and make some things work," Mixon said.
The Bengals (1-2-1) rolled up 505 yards of offense, working through or around some of their recent offensive line problems to get their first win. Getting the running game unstuck allowed some better looks downfield for Burrow, who became the first rookie in NFL history to throw for 300 or more yards in three consecutive games.
The Heisman Trophy winner completed 25 of 36 attempts for exactly 300 yards and the touchdown to Mixon.
After being hit 18 times and sacked eight times in a 23-23 tie against Philadelphia last week, Burrow went about his business without much trouble from the Jaguars' pass rush. He was sacked once.
"The O-line played really, really well today," Burrow said. "They've taken a lot of heat the last couple weeks, and I was super happy for those guys to have the game they did today and they're going to continue to build on it. I know they are."
Gardner Minshew was able to put up some good numbers, too, going 27 for 40 for 351 yards and two touchdowns for Jacksonville (1-3).
"We ran the...

Aaron Boone managing Yankees in family hometown San Diego
- SAN DIEGO (AP) - In a 2020 season that has had all sorts of odd twists, Aaron Boone will be managing the New York Yankees in an AL Division Series in an NL ballpark in the city where the Boone family dynasty has its roots.
While Boone is focused on what's expected to be a tough series against the AL East rival Tampa Bay Rays, he said it's always good to come back to the area that's special to the first family to have three generations of big leaguers.
Boone's grandfather, Ray, and father, Bob, went to San Diego high schools that aren't far from Petco Park, which will host the Yankees-Rays ALDS and then the ALCS in one of MLB's bubbles.
Due to COVID-19 protocols, this will be strictly a business swing for Boone, whose parents and brother Bret still live in the San Diego area.
"Unfortunately I don't get to see them on the trip because of the bubble and things like that and so they won't be coming to the games or having lunch or anything like that," Aaron said Saturday, two days before the series starts. "But it is always special to come back to Southern California. Whether I come here, to Anaheim or to LA, it's special to me.
"With me and my family now living on the East Coast, I don't get out here that much. It's definitely good to be here in this kind of weather, especially in October," Boone said.
Family patriarch Ray Boone followed Ted Williams at San Diego's Hoover High and was a major league infielder with six teams from 1948-60. He broke in with Cleveland late in the 1948 season and had one plate appearance in the Indians' World Series victory against the Boston Braves. He was an All-Star third baseman for Detroit in 1954 and 1956. He died in 2004 at 81.
Ray's son Bob attended Crawford High and played 19 seasons in the big...

Reds, Braves set postseason record for scoring futility
- ATLANTA (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves are playing the longest scoreless game in postseason history.
Wednesday's opening game of the NL wild-card series was the first in postseason history to be scoreless through 11 innings. The scoreless streak was extended through 12 innings.
The teams combined for a postseason record 35 strikeouts through 12 innings, and every batter that has come to the plate has struck out at least once after the Reds' Nick Castellanos became strikeout victim No. 36 leading off the 13th.
For the postseason, baseball has set aside the new extra-innings rule it instituted for the pandemic-delayed regular season. There is no designated runner at second base for extra innings.
The Reds left the bases loaded in the 11th when Mike Moustakas struck out to end the inning. Cincinnati wasted another scoring chance in the 12th when Tyler Matzek struck out pinch-hitter Freddy Galvis, leaving runners on first and third.
Trevor Bauer had 12 strikeouts through 7 2/3 innings for the Reds. Max Fried threw 7 innings, allowing six hits, for Atlanta.

LEADING OFF: Wild, 8-game day opens with Bauer vs Fried
- A look at what's happening around the majors Wednesday:
___
CRAZY EIGHT
How's this for wild: MLB is set to stage eight postseason games on the same day for the first time. National League clubs will open their best-of-three wild-card series, while four American League teams are already facing elimination after starting Tuesday.
The Reds and Braves open things with a dynamite pitching matchup between Trevor Bauer and Max Fried at noon ET, and baseball will be on TV until the Brewers and Dodgers wrap their 10 p.m. ET tilt.
With the expansion of the first round from a pair of wild-card games to eight best-of-three series, there are a maximum 65 possible postseason games this year. In the 1960s, there were 66 postseason games in the entire decade, with league championship series starting in 1969.
The day starts with a showdown between NL Cy Young Award contenders. The right-handed Bauer (5-4, 1.73 ERA) was at his best down the stretch for Cincinnati, including a 12-strikeout performance against Milwaukee in his final regular season start. Left-handed Fried (7-0, 2.25) has been slowed by back spasms and a left ankle injury in recent weeks.
SKIDDING
The Twins have lost 17 straight postseason games - the most in the history of major North American sports - and try to avoid elimination when José Berríos starts against Houston at Target Field.
The AL Central champions fell to the Astros 4-1 Tuesday in the opener of their best-of-three wild-card series. Minnesota's slump dates to 2004.
"We have a lot of guys in the clubhouse, but I'd say the vast majority of them don't know the Twins' history at all," manager Rocco Baldelli said.
Houston wanted to wait before announcing who will pitch.

Reds beat Twins 5-3 in 10; Minnesota wins AL Central
- MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Tucker Barnhart and Eugenio Suárez had RBI singles during a three-run 10th inning, and the Cincinnati Reds beat the Minnesota Twins 5-3 Sunday in a regular-season finale that determined postseason matchups.
Cincinnati (31-29) became the National League's seventh seed and will play No. 2 seed Atlanta in the first round starting Wednesday.
"Everyone contributed. It was a fun game," Reds manager David Bell said. "Maybe it wouldn't have changed anything where we're headed to Atlanta, but it sure was nice to see everybody play well, finish the regular season really feeling good about themselves and feeling good about our team."
Despite the defeat, Minnesota (36-24) clinched its second straight AL Central title when the Chicago White Sox lost to the Cubs. The third-seeded Twins host No. 6 seed Houston in the first round starting Tuesday.
"We were not focused on who we might be playing," Minnesota manager Rocco Baldelli said. "There was a lot going on in that game today. It's impossible to deny. ... Normally you just worry about winning the game. Normally you just go out and say, 'We're going to focus on winning. That's the only thing that matters.' And that's the way it is probably 99% of the time you take the field."
Raisel Iglesias (4-3) pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowing Marwin Gonzalez's RBI single in the bottom of the 10th.
Caleb Thielbar (2-1) started the 10th and got one out, then was replaced by Sergio Romo, who allowed the run-scoring hits and a bases-loaded walk to Joey Votto while failing to get any outs.
Cincinnati had high expectations after adding Nicholas Castellanos, Mike Moustakas and Shogo Akiyama in the offseason and having Trevor Bauer from the start.
The Reds were 15-21 after losing 16-2 to St....

Reds top Twins 7-2, clinch 1st playoff spot since 2013
- MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - From three soaring home runs to an exuberant race out of the dugout in celebration of their postseason berth, the Cincinnati Reds made plenty of noise in Minnesota's empty ballpark.
They're playing like they won't leave quietly, either.
Mike Moustakas homered twice, Freddy Galvis hit a solo shot and the Reds clinched their first playoff spot since 2013, beating the AL Central-leading Minnesota Twins 7-2 on Friday night.
"We're going to be as much of a threat as anyone," said slugger Joey Votto, who has spent his entire 14-year career with the Reds and is the only player remaining from that 2013 team. This will be his fourth trip to the postseason.
"I like this team much more than I liked those teams, and I really liked those teams," Votto said.
The Reds (30-28), who can finish as high as the fifth seed in the eight-team NL field, raised their record to two games above .500 for the first time since May 13, 2017, after Wade Miley, the fifth reliever, wrapped up a scoreless ninth.
Sporting MLB-issued red shirts commemorating their spot in the playoffs, Cincinnati players roared after the final out and streamed onto the diamond for hugs, high fives and a full-team picture.
The Twins (35-23) failed to secure home-field advantage for the wild-card series, when Cleveland rallied to beat Pittsburgh and forge a second-place tie with Chicago in the division race. Minnesota leads the White Sox and Indians by one game, with two to play.
The Reds took a one-and-done loss in the NL wild-card game in 2013, the last year they finished with a winning record, going 90-72 in Dusty Baker's final season as manager. Three skippers later, David Bell has guided them back for more. The Reds were 15-21 on Sept. 1.

Reds say broadcaster Brennaman resigns after anti-gay slur
- CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds say team broadcaster Thom Brennaman has resigned following his use of an anti-gay slur on air last month.
Brennaman used the slur moments after the feed from the Fox Sports Ohio telecast returned from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader at Kansas City on Aug. 19.
Brennaman did not seem to realize he was already on air. He later apologized.
The 57-year-old was taken off the air before the fifth inning of the second game.
"The Reds respect Thom Brennaman's decision to step away from the broadcast booth and applaud his heartfelt efforts of reconciliation with the LGBTQ+ community," Reds CEO Bob Castellini said in a statement. "The Brennaman family has been an intrinsic part of the Reds history for nearly fifty years. We sincerely thank Thom for bringing the excitement of Reds baseball to millions of fans during his years in the booth."
The son of Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman, Thom has called major league games for 33 years and has been with Fox Sports for the past 27, covering primarily baseball and football.
Fox Sports had already said that Brennaman wouldn't call NFL games because of the slur.
Fox issued a statement on Aug. 20 that said "we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include him." The network also said Brennaman's remarks were "abhorrent, unacceptable, and not representative of the values of Fox Sports."

Votto homers, Bauer sharp as surging Reds top Brewers 6-1
- CINCINNATI (AP) - The grounds crew that had been banging drums and raising a din in the stands all game long lined up and exchanged high-fives with exuberant Reds players.
Felt like old times at Great American Ball Park - 2013, to be exact, the last time Cincinnati made the playoffs.
Now, the Reds are on the verge of going back.
Joey Votto homered for his first hit all season against Milwaukee, Trevor Bauer dominated on short rest and the Reds won a pivotal series for playoff contention, beating the Brewers 6-1 on Wednesday night.
"A team we're neck-and-neck with in the division, in the wild-card hunt - today was an important game, and we came through for sure," Votto said.
The Reds are in position for a wild-card playoff berth after taking two of three from their NL Central rival. Cincinnati has won nine of 11, its best streak of the season, to get a shot at its first playoff appearance since a wild-card berth in 2013 under manager Dusty Baker.
After a day off Thursday, Cincinnati finishes with three games in Minnesota and a chance to clinch a spot.
"I don't want to get too far ahead of myself because I've seen it too many times where teams get their hearts broken," said Votto, who was on the last playoff team. "I'm of course enjoying playing winning baseball, but we've got three more to go."
Reflecting the urgency of winning the final game of the series, Cincinnati had Bauer (5-4) pitch on three days' rest. He allowed four hits and struck out 12 in eight innings, throwing 104 pitches.
"Just a big game," manager David Bell said. "I think it was even more meaningful that it was on short rest. He knew how big of a game this was and he wanted to be out there."
Bauer exited with an NL-best 1.73 ERA. Cleveland's Shane Bieber tops the majors at...

Eugenio Suárez homers, surging Reds beat Brewers 6-3
- CINCINNATI (AP) - The Reds aren't wilting in their first exposure to September playoff pressure in many years.
Eugenio Suárez hit a two-run homer, Luis Castillo won his fourth straight start, and streaking Cincinnati moved above .500 for the first time since opening day, beating the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 Monday night.
The Reds (28-27) won for the eighth time in nine games, a season-best surge that's put them back in playoff contention. They're chasing the Cardinals for second place in the NL Central.
"The whole team is working perfectly," Castillo said. "We've won eight out of nine. Everything is going our way."
The Reds are coming off six losing seasons and haven't been to the playoffs since 2013. They spent $156 million in the offseason - one of the majors' biggest splurges - to try to reverse course.
And now, they've got their chance.
"The last few games we've played like this is our year," Suárez said. "We've got to play all the rest of the games like they're also playoff games."
The Brewers (26-27) had their season-high four-game winning streak snapped, wasting a chance to move above .500 for the first time this season. They've reached break-even seven times.
"I know we're chasing two teams, St. Louis and Cincinnati," said Brandon Woodruff, who gave up Suárez's pivotal homer. "Honestly I haven't really looked at the record. We know we're pretty much neck-and-neck, and we know we need to win these games."
Milwaukee reached the playoffs each of the last two seasons with hot Septembers, including a 7-1 win at Great American Ball Park last Sept. 25 that clinched a wild card. The Brewers couldn't keep it going in their return.
Suárez connected in the sixth inning off Woodruff (2-5), who had repeatedly escaped threats. Suárez fell...

Burrow throws 3 TDs in second start but Bengals lose again
- CLEVELAND (AP) - Joe Burrow's white uniform was streaked with grass stains. His right arm was intact but understandably a little sore.
His second NFL start was quite a workout - but not a win.
Burrow threw three touchdown passes and Cincinnati's rookie quarterback showed incredible composure and poise in keeping the Bengals around until the end of a 35-30 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
The No. 1 overall pick in this year's draft completed 37 of 61 passes for 316 yards, and made a few dazzling plays that lit up social media and had many of the 6,000 Browns fans inside FirstEngergy Stadium feeling nervous.
But Burrow, who led LSU to a national championship last year after transferring from Ohio State, wasn't interested in any outside praise.
"Losing isn't very fun," he said. "This might be the only time I've lost two games in a row. It doesn't feel very good. ... Losing is unacceptable to me."
Burrow went toe to toe with Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, a fellow Heisman Trophy winner and top overall pick, who was impressed by what he saw from Cincinnati's rookie.
"The hype is real with Joe," said Mayfield, who threw two TD passes and helped the Browns bounce back from a dreadful opener. "Obviously, that team loves him. They follow him and he leads them."
Burrow's 61 attempts were the second-most in history for a rookie, bettered only by the 63 passes Carolina's Chris Weinke threw in 2001.
It wasn't necessarily the game plan Bengals coach Zac Taylor had in mind, but Burrow kept making plays and Cincinnati rode the 23-year-old, who threw a 9-yard TD pass to Tyler Boyd with 43 seconds left to pull the Bengals within 5.
"We felt like we had a lot of success in the passing game," Taylor said. "This is the same thing that kind of...

Analysis: Start of 2020 season floating on stranger tides
- It's going to be that kind of season.
It already is.
The perceived worst teams in the NFL either won or challenged to on Sunday. A linebacker was ejected for demonstrating what happened on a play to a game official and making contact with him. A kicker cramped in his calf while attempting a potential tying field goal.
Detroit blew a big late lead - oh, wait, that happens all the time - to lose to Chicago. Indianapolis, which did not re-sign likely Hall of Fame placekicker Adam Vinatieri, was victimized by missed field goals against the Jaguars. And nothing bad happened to the Washington Football Team for once.
The lack of fans everywhere but Jacksonville due to the coronavirus pandemic was weird enough, particularly in normally raucous places such as New Orleans, Baltimore and Minnesota.
"It was one of the strangest experiences I've had in the NFL, being in a stadium like this to have memories of some really rocking times," Aaron Rodgers said after throwing for 364 yards and four touchdowns - he threw for only three scores over his first four visits to U.S. Bank Stadium.
While Rodgers and the rest of the Packers were in Minneapolis, their radio broadcast crew did the game from Lambeau Field.
Rodgers, 36, hardly was the oldest quarterback in action. In fact, two 40-some codgers were on the same field, 43-year-old Tom Brady for Tampa Bay and 41-year-old Drew Brees in New Orleans. The top two statistical passers in several major categories - and pretty much in silence.
"It sort of felt like we were at a Tampa Bay game," Saints defensive end Cam Jordan said, referring to where empty seats have become a tradition.
And this was only Week 1.
With no preseason games after a virtual offseason, sloppiness and unpredictability figured to be the norm. That was...

Miller hit batter, walk, wild pitch lifts Reds over Cards
- ST. LOUIS (AP) - Andrew Miller loaded the bases with a hit batter, followed with a tying four-pitch walk, then threw a wild pitch that put Cincinnati ahead in a three-run seventh inning as the Reds kept up their slim playoff hopes with a 10-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday.
St. Louis, second in the NL Central at 20-20, dropped four games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs (28-20) with two weeks left. The fourth-place Reds are 21-26 and also trail Milwaukee (20-24) .
The Cardinals led 5-3 before Nick Castellanos' RBI single in the sixth off Alex Reyes.
"That was one of my favorite games I've been a part of, really," Reds manager David Bell said. "So many guys on this team really stepped up and came back and got a really important comeback win."
Mike Moustakas drew a one-out walk in the seventh, and John Gant (0-3) relieved and allowed Tyler Stephenson's single. With a 1-0 count to Brian Goodwin, athletic trainer Adam Olsen came to the mound, and Gant was removed due to groin discomfort.
Miller hit pinch-hitter Aristides Aquino with a 1-2 pitch, then walked Freddy Galvis on four pitches as the tying run came home. Miller started José García with an inside slider in the dirt that got by Gold Glove catcher Yadier Molina as Tyler Stephenson scored for a 6-5 lead. García followed with an RBI groundout.
"To score runs like that, that's what we want," Reds third baseman Eugenio Suárez said, "We don't want to throw away the situation like that."
Suárez hit his team-leading 13th home run in the eighth off Jake Woodford, and Aquino added a two-run homer in the ninth against Nabil Crismatt, Aquino's first home run since he hit his 19th of last season on Sept 29.
Archie Bradley (2-0) pitched two hitless innings for his first win since he...

Reds sweep Brewers as teams resume play following protest
- MILWAUKEE (AP) - Wade Miley allowed one hit over four scoreless innings to help the Cincinnati Reds to a 6-0 victory and doubleheader sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday night, one day after both teams opted not to play to protest racial injustice.
The reactions by the teams followed the weekend shooting by police of Jacob Blake, a Black man, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, about 40 miles south of Milwaukee. Other major league teams have since followed, with seven games postponed Thursday.
Miley, making his third start after a stint on the injured list, allowed only a leadoff single in the third, striking out three and walking one, with a hit batter.
"That's probably the best stuff I've had, as far as shape of pitches, cutter, change-up," Miley said. "I felt really good early on. I was able to get the cutter up and in on guys' hands. I was getting the swings that I kind of got accustomed to over the past couple years, really for the first time."
Miley, 14-6 with Houston last season, entered with a 9.72 ERA. He had lasted just 1 2/3 innings in each of his first two starts, sandwich around time on the IL. He went five innings his last time out, allowing three earned runs.
Lucas Sims (2-0) walked two in two scoreless innings for the victory and Raisel Iglesias completed the one-hitter with a perfect ninth.
The Reds combined two singles and Kyle Farmer's double and a hit batter for two runs in the second off starter Josh Lindblom (1-2).
"Just a frustrating day of baseball," Lindblom said. "It wasn't very much fun. The way the series started, we played two really, really good games. To come out today and split the series, that was tough."

Sheriff: Missing dad of Bengals player found safe in Florida
- FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) - The missing father of Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Mackensie Alexander turned up early Thursday at a ranger station at a Florida state park, sheriff's officials said.
Jean Alexandre, 65, was reported to be in good health and will be reunited with this family, the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office said in a Twitter post Thursday morning. He walked up to the ranger station at the Kissimmee Prairie Preserve State Park, which is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) north of Okeechobee in central Florida.
The sheriff's office offered no additional details.
"We are all relieved and grateful that he was found, and that he was found well," Brian Pakett, an attorney representing Mackensie Alexander, told The Associated Press on Thursday morning. "That was my client's sole concern."
Alexandre, a Haitian immigrant who uses a French spelling of the family's surname, went missing after going to pick palmetto berries Monday, officials said. A missing persons report was released Wednesday.
His son, cornerback Mackensie Alexander, was jailed Wednesday on a misdemeanor battery charge after deputies say he beat up a man shortly after returning to Florida to help search for his missing father.
Alexander, 26, and another man, 28-year-old Evins Clement, were arrested by Collier County sheriff's deputies Tuesday night. Alexander grew up in the small farming community of Immokalee, in southwest Florida, where his family still lives. Bail for both men was set at $2,000 each, and they were both released Wednesday.
Alexander had left Bengals training camp earlier Tuesday to assist in the search.
According to a missing person's report released Wednesday, Mauricet Etienne, 56, told investigators that after several hours of picking, he could not find Alexandre...

Smoak, Brewers snap 4-game skid, beat Bauer, Reds 4-2
- MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Brewers picked an unlikely evening to end their run of slow starts.
Justin Smoak homered and drove in three runs as Milwaukee cooled off Trevor Bauer and snapped a four-game skid with a 4-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Monday night.
Smoak's first-inning RBI single put the Brewers ahead for good. Before Monday, the Brewers had been outscored 37-5 in the opening two innings of games this season.
"It was really helpful," said Brewers catcher Omar Narvaez, who added a solo shot. "You kind of breathe a little bit more when you call the game when you're ahead."
Getting an early lead was unusual enough for the Brewers. Doing it against Bauer was even more surprising.
Bauer (3-1) began the game with an 0.68 ERA that led the majors. The last time he'd faced the Brewers, Bauer had struck out 12 while allowing one run and three hits over six innings in an 8-3 Cincinnati victory on Aug. 7.
This time, he fell behind 4-0 in the first four innings.
"They battled," Bauer said. "They put up really good at-bats all night long. You've really got to give theme credit. It was a lot different game than the first time I faced them. They clearly understood what I was trying to do and fought along with me, and when I made some mistakes, they didn't miss them. They hit a lot of balls hard."
This four-game series matches two NL Central rivals trying to bounce back from disappointing starts as the abbreviated season approaches its halfway point. They entered Monday's game with identical 11-15 records, putting them 5 1/2 games behind the division-leading Chicago Cubs.
The Brewers were opening a 10-game homestand after getting swept over the weekend by the last-place Pittsburgh Pirates.
"The last three days in Pittsburgh, that's not who we are...

LEADING OFF: Reds suspend Brennaman, Cardinals come home
- A look at what's happening around the majors today:
SLUR SUSPENSION
The Reds say they "will be addressing our broadcasting team in the coming days" after announcer Thom Brennaman was suspended from working Cincinnati's games for using an anti-gay slur on air.
Brennman was pulled off the broadcast in the middle of the second game of a doubleheader between the Reds and Royals. The longtime play-by-play announcer used the slur moments after the Fox Sports Ohio feed returned from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game. He did not seem to realize he was already on air.
Brennaman later apologized. The Reds also apologized, saying the organization "is devastated by the horrific, homophobic remark."
WELCOME BACK TO BUSCH
The St. Louis Cardinals are finally coming home.
After finishing an eight-game, five-day trip to Chicago with series against the White Sox and Cubs, the Cardinals are set to play at Busch Stadium for the first time since July 26 as they host the Cincinnati Reds.
The Cardinals didn't play any games at all for a stretch of over two weeks due to a coronavirus outbreak within the organization that included star catcher Yadier Molina.
"Everyone's still pretty excited about the fact we're back out," Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong said. "The quarantine kind of made everybody go crazy a little bit. To finally be back out here doing what we love to do, it's still fun right now. We're just going out, playing the game and having fun."
They returned to action by going 4-4 in this eight-game trip that included three doubleheaders. They have 10 scheduled doubleheaders this year as they try to make up some of those games they missed

Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman suspended for anti-gay slur
- KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman has been suspended from working Cincinnati's games after using an anti-gay slur on air Wednesday night, prompting the team to apologize for the "horrific, homophobic remark."
Brennaman used the slur moments after the Fox Sports Ohio feed returned from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader at Kansas City. Brennaman did not seem to realize he was already on air. He later apologized.
The Reds took the 56-year-old Brennaman off the broadcast in the fifth inning of the second game.
"The Cincinnati Reds organization is devastated by the horrific, homophobic remark made this evening by broadcaster Thom Brennaman," the team said in a statement. "He was pulled off the air, and effective immediately was suspended from doing Reds broadcasts. We will be addressing our broadcasting team in the coming days."
"In no way does this incident represent our players, coaches, organization, or our fans. We share our sincerest apologies to the LGBTQ+ community in Cincinnati, Kansas City, all across this country, and beyond. The Reds embrace a zero-tolerance policy for bias or discrimination of any kind, and we are truly sorry to anyone who has been offended," it said.
Brennaman opened the fifth inning with an apology spoken directly to camera before handing off play-by-play duties.
"I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of," he said. "If I have hurt anyone out there, I can't tell you how much I say from the bottom of my heart, I am very, very sorry."
After pausing to announce a home run by Cincinnati's Nick Castellanos, Brennaman added: "I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset...
