The ownership group comprising former whirlpool sa executives and other investors entered into an agreement to acquire whirlpool south africa (proprietary) limited from whirlpool corporation (nyse:whr) for $5 million on june 28, 2019. the purchase price to be paid in cash is subject to customary adjustments at closing. whirlpool will continue to operate as usual in south africa until the sale is concluded. the new ownership group will continue to market and distribute their other brands in south africa and surrounding countries – including the whirlpool, indesit, and ariston brands. employees (including those at the isithebe plant) will continue to work with the new company. the transaction will have no effect on service commitments or warranties. the transaction is subject to customary regulatory reviews and approvals. the sale is expected to close during the third quarter of 2019.
