Metlife auto & home® rewards teens for driving safely with the launch of its revamped “teens on the road to safety program”

Warwick, r.i.--(business wire)--one in three teenage deaths happens in motor vehicle crashes, and the sad truth is many of them could have been prevented. in an effort to save teenage lives and make roads safer for everyone, metlife auto & home has launched its revamped “teens on the road to safety program” to encourage teenagers to make safe driving a priority. as part of this program, young drivers who go one year without accidents, claims, or moving violations will receive a $50 american express® reward card for their commitment to safe driving. each teen can earn another $50 card by maintaining a clean driving record for a second year. to participate, teens need to complete 20 weekly driving trips with a parent or guardian, and then submit a written log of those trips to metlife auto & home. research has shown that learning good driving habits with a seasoned driver is an effective way to decrease the likelihood of crashes and fatalities for teens. “a loss of life is always tragic, but when a young life is cut short by a car accident that might have been prevented, it is heartbreaking,” said mike convery, chief claim officer, metlife auto & home. “we hope this new program helps teens learn good driving habits for life. if we can prevent just one teen death, it will be well worth the effort.” the program is open to teens aged 16 – 17 years old, who are covered by a metlife auto & home auto policy and live in one of the participating states. parents and guardians interested in determining their teens’ eligibility and enrolling in this program can find more information by calling their insurance agents or 1-800-608-0190, or they can download the enrollment kit to review with their teen drivers. participating states at present include: ala., alaska, ariz., calif., colo., conn., fla., ga., idaho, ill., ind., iowa, kan., maine, md., minn., miss., mo., neb., nev., n.h., n.m., n.c., ohio, okla., ore., pa., r.i., texas, utah, va., wash., and wis. in addition to this innovative program, metlife auto & home offers many other materials to help teenagers, parents, and guardians successfully navigate the teen driving experience, and make it as safe and painless as possible. these materials provide important guidelines to follow before teenagers get behind the wheel. they emphasize the importance that preparation and planning can play in defusing potentially stressful situations. these materials are also available by calling 1-800-608-0190. “teaching your teen to drive (without driving each other crazy!)” – a comprehensive guide for parents and guardians with actionable advice on how best to teach teenagers to drive; “beginning teenage drivers” – a brochure for teens, parents, and guardians with sobering facts and real-life stories about the risks of teen driving; “young drivers, the high-risk years” – a dvd featuring teenagers talking about how important driving is to them and parents of teenagers who died in crashes share how the accidents happened and how their families have been affected. metlife auto & home, a brand of metropolitan property and casualty insurance company and its affiliates, is one of the nation’s leading personal lines property and casualty insurance providers, with more than 2.7 million policies in force. metlife auto & home is a part of metlife, inc.
