Metlife launches new family medical leave decision support solution
for small businesses
New york--(business wire)--keeping current with the continually-evolving statutory and regulatory environment of the federal family medical leave act (fmla) and similar state laws can be daunting for any employer. small businesses face their own unique challenges when it comes to navigating complex fmla regulations and state laws -- economies of scale affect outsourcing options and limited human resource personnel are often juggling many other day-to-day business issues. to make it easier for small businesses to focus on core operations, metlife, an absence management market leader, today announced an innovative solution specifically for small businesses, fmlassistsm. available to employers with 50 to 999 employees with underlying long-term disability insurance coverage through metlife, the program provides them the opportunity to help reduce the compliance burden and regulatory risks associated with family and medical leave (fml) decision-making. improperly denying an employee’s valid fml request or mistakenly approving a request which does not qualify for fml leave may have financial consequences for employers. fmlassistsm offers small businesses the option of referring fml requests to metlife at their sole discretion. the program cost to employers is based on the number of fml decision requests they decide to refer to metlife. employers retain control of their program “fmlassistsm helps to empower small businesses to manage their overall program costs more effectively. with fmlassistsm, the employer retains complete control of its fml process, with the flexibility to elect to submit all, some or none of their employees’ fml requests to metlife. since the employer only pays for the cases it refers to metlife for decision, this is a unique way to help to control program expenses,” said paul d. taylor, vice president, disability product management for metlife. metlife has been providing employers with quality disability products and services for more than 50 years and is a leading disability carrier in the industry, with more than $2.16 billion of premiums and equivalents in force, according to the 2010 u.s. group disability survey, limra international. for more information about fmlassistsm, visit http://www.metlife.com/totaldisabilitysolutions. about metlife metlife is a subsidiary of metlife, inc.
