Hca continental division president jeff dorsey to retire

Nashville, tenn.--(business wire)--hca (nyse:hca) today announced that jeff dorsey, president of the company’s continental division, will retire effective may 31, 2012. the continental division is comprised of seven denver-area hospitals in the healthone system; ou medical center and ou medical center edmond in oklahoma; and wesley medical center and galichia heart hospital in wichita, kansas. dorsey also has responsibility for 16 surgery centers and dozens of other outpatient centers in colorado, oklahoma and kansas. a search is underway for his replacement. “jeff has been a great leader and colleague for many years,” said sam hazen, president of operations for hca. “his stewardship of the healthone partnership made it a premier system and ultimately paved the way for hca to acquire full ownership of the facilities in denver. we will miss jeff’s dynamic leadership, but wish him well as he moves into retirement.” a 40-year veteran of the hospital industry, dorsey has led healthone since its creation as a 50/50 joint venture with the colorado health foundation in 1995 through hca’s acquisition of full ownership of the health system last year. he has served as a division president for hca since 1995, when he became president and ceo of the colorado division, which included healthone, and later was renamed the continental division to include the kansas and oklahoma hospitals. “jeff took healthone from its infancy to the greatness it now achieves in the metro denver area,” said john mcwilliams, chairman of the healthone board of trustees. “i’m a great admirer of his administrative and leadership skills and wish him many happy years in his retirement.” “because of the former partnership between hca and the colorado health foundation, i was fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn about the business of acute healthcare delivery from jeff dorsey,” said anne warhover, president and ceo of the colorado health foundation. “his attention to the business of health care is unsurpassed, and he believed in investing in the hospital system to ensure quality care and a quality experience for the patients. i enjoyed working with jeff and am eager to learn about his next chapter.” dorsey began his career in 1972 as an administrative resident at portsmouth general hospital in portsmouth, va. he joined hca in 1981, serving in administrative roles at terre haute regional hospital in indiana, saudi arabian national guard hospital in saudi arabia, redmond park hospital in georgia and newman county hospital in kansas. in 1986, he became executive vice president and administrator of rose medical center in denver. he was promoted to president and ceo of rose health care system, which included the medical center, columbine psychiatric hospital and 12 satellite facilities, in 1994. in 1995, rose health care system became part of hca’s colorado division and, later that year, the newly created healthone. dorsey was promoted to president and ceo of healthone and hca’s colorado division. in 1997, his role expanded to include hca’s newly formed continental division. all references to “company” and “hca” as used through this release refer to hca holdings, inc. and its affiliates.
