Dev bootcamp opens its doors in seattle

Seattle--(business wire)--dev bootcamp, the original immersive coding bootcamp, is coming to seattle. applications are now open for the first class (or cohort) of the 19-week program (nine weeks part-time online, nine weeks full-time immersive and one week of intensive career training) that begins on april 11. the onsite portion of the training will begin on june 13 at 83 south king street, in the pioneer square area. dev bootcamp provides students with a strong coding foundation in languages and frameworks such as javascript, jquery, ajax, html/css and ruby, among others, as well as communication skills that improve team-based success in the workplace. with campuses across the u.s. – san francisco, new york, chicago and san diego – seattle was the next logical opening to address the growing demand for innovative developer education. currently, the washington technology industry association (wtia) estimates that every year there is a 3,000-person shortage in filling such core technology jobs as software developers and engineers. in addition, seattle ranks among the top 10 cities in the world to attract venture capital investment, which creates an even greater demand for start-up developer talent; and tech companies such as facebook, google and tableau have been expanding their presence—and need for talent—in the city. since the first class in 2012, dev bootcamp’s graduates have created successful tech careers as a result of the program’s unique curriculum, including a number of alumni working in the seattle area. the bootcamp combines rigorous project work—using languages and frameworks most common in today’s job market—with soft skills and metacognitive training needed to transition successfully into almost any engineering team as a software developer. “to train students effectively in a compressed timeframe, we’ve studied teaching and learning modalities in depth,” said stu jones, campus director, dev bootcamp seattle. “this has resulted in dev bootcamp being the first program to incorporate metacognitive training into our curriculum, to help our students understand how they learn personally, to optimize their learning and to help them quickly acquire new skills. in addition, dev bootcamp is unique in its engineering empathy coursework, which enhances emotional intelligence, collaboration and leadership skills. these skills help to differentiate our graduates as potential job candidates and contribute to their ongoing success in the workplace.” the program’s unique “whole-self” approach to learning ensures that students graduate with not only solid technical skills, but also interpersonal skills and abilities such as empathy, giving and receiving feedback and projecting leadership confidence, which enable them to work well in diverse teams. multiple learning modalities such as lectures, pair programming, group projects and individual challenges are used to optimize student engagement. dev bootcamp has graduated more than 2,100 students since it was founded in 2012, making it one of the largest bootcamps of its kind. after graduation, dev bootcamp focuses on maintaining engagement with its graduates through its active alumni community, inviting many alumni to engage as coaches and mentors for new students, celebrating new jobs that graduates land after the program and offering perks like tickets to events and conferences. “after deciding i wouldn’t pursue a master’s in computer science, i started looking into multiple coding bootcamp programs,” said texas native and future dev bootcamp seattle student, cj jessett. “some required an existing knowledge of coding, while other programs’ curriculum just wasn’t robust enough. my friend, who had recently graduated from the san francisco campus, introduced me to dev bootcamp – a program innovative enough to take an aspiring coder to a fully capable and marketable developer in a few months. when i heard about the seattle campus opening, i knew it was going to be the right place for me. the city is charming and as a rock climber i appreciate the outdoor opportunities it brings.” for more information about dev bootcamp’s expansion to seattle, contact chris nishimura at chris.nishimura@devbootcamp.com. to apply for the inaugural seattle cohort, visit http://devbootcamp.com/locations/seattle/. about dev bootcamp dev bootcamp pioneered the short-term, immersive developer bootcamp, a model that transforms beginners into highly employable web developers in a matter of months. the 18-week curriculum, and one week of career training, teaches the technical skills people need to work as a web developer, but also the interpersonal skills that are critical to working in dynamic, cross-functional engineering teams. with more than 2,100 graduates to date, and locations in san francisco, chicago, new york city, san diego and seattle, dev bootcamp continues to lead the industry through innovation and expansion. dev bootcamp is owned by kaplan, inc. for more information, visit devbootcamp.com. note to editors: kaplan is a subsidiary of the graham holdings company (nyse:ghc)
