Axis capital appoints ben rubin as executive vice president, capital
markets at axis re
Pembroke, bermuda--(business wire)--axis capital holdings limited (“axis capital”) (nyse: axs) today announced that ben rubin will join axis re as executive vice president, capital markets, effective july 8th. in this newly-created position, mr. rubin will be responsible for managing and developing relationships with third-party capital providers in support of axis capital’s global specialist underwriting operations. mr. rubin will report to jay nichols, chief executive officer of axis re. mr. rubin joins from bank of america merrill lynch, where he was most recently a director in the investment banking unit in new york. during his tenure there, his diverse experiences encompassed capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and insurance-linked securities. he was also instrumental in the creation and execution of a number of financings globally including: sidecars, catastrophe bonds and risk transfer transactions. commenting on the appointment, mr. nichols said: “i have worked closely with ben on a number of ventures over the years that brought innovative alternative reinsurance structures to the market. he is a seasoned professional whose expertise will be instrumental in leveraging our strong global specialist underwriting franchises. i expect ben's contributions will be invaluable in leading axis into a leadership position in the rapidly expanding convergence of reinsurance and the capital markets.” axis capital is a bermuda-based global provider of specialty lines insurance and treaty reinsurance with shareholders’ equity at march 31, 2013 of $5.9 billion and locations in bermuda, the united states, europe, singapore, canada, australia and latin america. its operating subsidiaries have been assigned a rating of “a+” (“strong”) by standard & poor’s and “a” (“excellent”) with a positive outlook by a.m. best.
