The Boy on the Rail Fence is filled with stories that talk about fences and water. The stories are literal, but they also became metaphors for making life decisions. Which side are we on? Politically, religiously, emotionally – living in an imperfect world with imperfect people. Jim Bridges said, “He wasn’t lost he just didn’t know where he was.” While walking on top of the old rail fence, the straight shot is the goal, but not always on target. Walking the rail fence, Don Robinson says he was never was able to go more than a quarter mile without falling, and usually not on the same side. Water flow is the same in our world, it’s never the same. The ups and downs of a creek are so like family history, with mine being no exception. It's the same in a community and one’s personal life. This little book isn’t meant to be a philosophical essay. The water and fences are only an example of our lives. Fences can have a whole lot of things happen to them; they lean, fall, rot, and get run over. Streams flood, change course and go dry…. So do our lives.
