When our son Dylan was diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) at our 20-week anatomy scan, we were completely devastated and fearful of what the future had in store, but also ready to begin the path of healing. We were determined to give him the fighting chance he deserved. We had to relocate over 450 miles away from our home for close to a year while he endured procedure after procedure, and finally recovered. Having a child with medical conditions means a lot of your focus is put on this child's health needs for their survival. Oftentimes, any other siblings’ feelings or needs are put on the backburner. My daughter, Audrey, was just two years old when we found out about Dylan’s complexities. She endured a year full of so much growth, during which she was separated from her parents for weeks at a time. Throughout this season, my husband and I were able to witness the remarkable innocence of a child's perspective. This ultimately helped us, as a family, cope with such a challenging time in our lives. This book was written to honor Audrey’s journey. I hope other children with medical siblings are able to read this book and feel seen. This is their story, too.
