More than 500 years after Magellan’s expedition, this book traces the voyage in detail and reexamines its significance from an Asian perspective. It also uncovers new historical findings. While it has long been accepted that only 18 men from Magellan’s fleet completed the first circumnavigation of the globe, the book reveals that another 17 later made their way back to Spain, bringing the total to 35. It also considers the possibility that Enrique, the slave Magellan obtained in Malacca, may in fact have been the first person to circumnavigate the world.
